Sideshow freak banners FMP

As I have said before, my final major project is about fake sideshow freaks. Here are a couple of sketches for the banners that are supposed to hang on the sides of the display. I wanted them to be really tall, so I printed them out to be a bit taller than 2 meters each. They looked really good being huge and I am actually kind of pleased with how they look now, so I might not do to many changes to them.

I am currently preparing to go home for Easter vacation. But being that I have so much work to do for the Final Major Project and other projects, I kind of have a feeling that it will be more work than fun and relaxing. Looking forward to get home anyway though 🙂

Antwerp trip

I was in Antwerp with my course a couple of weeks ago. Antwerp was a great place to be, and it was just the break I needed from university. I never really manage to do much drawing on these sort of trips. I guess it is because there is just so much to see and do when you are in a new place for just a few days, that sketching kind of gets forgotten…

Top 5 things I liked about my Antwerp trip.

1. The nights out. So much fun.

2. Eating breakfast in the park.

3. Belgian waffle everyday.

4. The giant cathedral.

5. The piano player in the street.

Top 5 things I didn’t like about my Antwerp trip.

1. No sleep because of snoring roommate.

2. To short time there.

3. Really difficult to find ATMs.

4. Don’t remember the name of it, but there was one beer that tasted awful. Like a mix between fish and metal…

5. Difficult to read the menus in restaurants.

If I get the chance, I will definitely go back there.

Life drawing vol.2

I have done a lot of life drawing since I posted the last Life Drawing post. The thing I like the most about life drawing, is that it gives me the chance to just play around with painting and drawing tools I necessarily don’t use that much. And it is also nice to be able to focus more on the drawing process than on the actual finished drawing. So here are a few of the drawings I have made since last time.

The paint in her face suddenly went all crazy in the bottom drawing giving the model some huge lips. I decided to keep it.

Final Major Project plans

My final major project will be a book about fake sideshow freaks, some posters and a display showing of fake sideshow freak memorabilia.

This is an early sketch of the display. So it might end up looking completely different when its done.

One of the things in the display will be a “real” Feejee mermaid doll. I have done the planning for it and am now waiting for it to be made by my friend Mirja Eriksen who works with making special effects. You should take a look at her webpage www.goblinsandbodyparts.com to see some of the stuff she has already made and is currently working on.

This is how I want it to look.

I am really exited about this project, and I am really looking forward to seeing the feejee mermaid when it is starting to take shape!

Feejee Mermaid poster test

My final major project is about fake sideshow freaks, and how they usually never looked anything like the posters that was made of them. Don’t know why, but I have always found that sort of stuff interesting :p One of the freaks I have used is the Feejee mermaid. On the posters it would be shown as a beautiful mermaid, but in real life, it was usually just half a fish and half a monkey stuck together.

This was my first try at the feejee mermaid poster. I am happy with the feejee mermaid’s pose and the composition of the drawing, but I think I will use a different style of drawing for the final version.

Patron Saints Poems

We were given the opportunity to illustrate to some poems about patron saints written by Maggie Butt at uni. Being that all of the other projects at the moment are massive, it was nice to get a small one to focus on for a change.  The selected illustrations will be published in Maggie Butt’s Patron Saint poem book. So here are my submissions.
